Put Your Self Out There
Over five years ago I was listening to The Invest Like The Best Podcast, which happens to be the podcast that inspired me to start podcasting, and I heard Khe Hy as a guest and was immediately drawn to his story and energy.
I immediately subscribed to his email, started following him, listened to more podcast appearances, and eventually took a few of his courses. I eventually reached out to see if he would be a guest on All About Your Benjamins–my ask was half-hearted because I didn’t expect a yes but I didn’t want to look back and wish I had asked.
To my surprise, Khe said yes and I had one of the most memorable podcast conversations in my hosting career. It wasn’t the best conversation he and I have had–he’s been on the show multiple times, but it was so memorable because I had the chance to interview someone I admired and looked up to on my podcast.
All because I put myself out there.
Every Thursday, I “shoot my shot” and encourage everyone to send an email, make a call, send a text message, or just take a chance on something they’ve been holding back on. I shoot a lot of airballs on Thursday evening, but I’m going to keep shooting because you never know when you’re going to make the shot and what that shot could mean.
For me, shooting my shot to have Khe on my podcast turned into a tremendous friendship with someone I still admire where we each help each other grow and get better.
My shot turned into a friendship where I can shoot a text a couple of days before a quick trip to LA and set up a lunch with Khe where we talked about business, content, marriage, and parenting.
My shot turned into text messages of encouragement and appreciation throughout the year.
My shot turned into a friendship where every in-person hangout begins and ends with a big hug.
All because I put myself out there.
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there–imposter syndrome may tell you that you have nothing to bring to a relationship or situation, but that’s not true. And it’s not your decision to make–you don’t get to determine what people might need from you because you have no way of knowing.
You’ll miss a lot of shots on Shoot-Your-Shot-Thursday but when you hit, it will be special!
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
