Revisiting The PRST Origin Story

We’re about 130 days into the Daily Notes and much further into the PRST journey and I thought it would be a good time to revisit the origin story, the “why” behind it, and how it has evolved.

Note: For those newer to the notes or who were not with me at the beginning, PRST is pronounced Pursuit, it stands for Passions, Relationships, Self, and Time, and it is a separate brand I launched to be able to provide non-financial advice ways to help individuals pursue their passions and find their authentic lives.

To be honest, I’m not sure exactly when the Pursuit of PRST began–as I look back over the last 8 years, possibly even longer if I look more closely, there are a lot of breadcrumbs along the way that make where I am today an obvious destination.

For example, when I had the RLS Wealth website redone in 2018 we included “your champion for life’s pursuits” on the home page. The concept of PRST was nowhere on my radar at that time–maybe it was buried in my subconscious waiting for a series of events to unlock it, but I do not believe it is a coincidence we chose “pursuit” back then and years later I came up with PRST.

Or, in 2019 I launched “The Pursuit” series on All About Your Benjamins where I started talking to guests less about finance and more about life, eventually connecting life back to finance. In my mind, this was the beginning of PRST but at the time I had no idea what it would become and I’m sure I can find a starting point prior to the first episode of The Pursuit.

WHY?

The original “why” behind PRST was simple–I wanted more people to pursue their passions and create a life of minimal regret and maximum happiness by living the life they felt they were meant to live, not the one prescribed by others for them.

Wordy, I know.

The mission hasn’t changed much–it’s just gotten more clear and easier to communicate. Today, the “why” had evolved to help individuals connect their spirit, mind, body, and money in the Pursuit of their authentic life.

Much shorter.
Easier to understand.
And still leads to minimal regret and maximum happiness.

Finding your authentic life is important to me for a few reasons.

First, you deserve it. You only have one shot at this experience and deserve to be happy, doing the things you love, surrounded by people you love and who love you, and looking back on life with few regrets and plenty of memories. Instead, I fear many will look back on their lives wishing they would have done things differently–I want to help you avoid this.

Secondly, the world will be a better place. If more people are living their authentic lives, not only will the world be a happier place thanks to more people feeling a sense of purpose, being kind and uplifting, and happy, but it will be better because we will be getting the “best” out of more people. When you are living your authentic life you are able to bring the best version of your Self to the world at work, socially, at your children’s extracurricular activities, and in any environment you find yourself in. If everyone brings their best Self, the world will be a better place for everyone.

Finally, helping you connect your spirit, mind, body, and money and find your authentic life is a part of my authentic life. With my alignment of spirit, mind, body, and money, I've realized that I can help others do the same through my passion for creating and my skillset as a financial advisor. The best version of my Self includes helping you find your authentic life in a variety of different ways–many of which are currently being built or in my notebook waiting for the right time to launch.

NOT JUST CAREER

It’s important to remember that your authentic life is more than your career. It’s easy to automatically define your authentic life by the work you do but that would be leaving out a number of important factors.

Your authentic life also includes:

  • Your hobbies and other interests

  • How you allocate your time and energy

  • The people you surround your Self with

  • The ability to follow your passions

  • Expressing your Inner Creator

  • Your mindset

  • And anything else that is important to you and you feel called to do

  • And let’s not forget the connection and alignment of spirit, mind, body, and money

What makes your authentic life “authentic” is that it is unique to you–and you are more complex than the work you choose to do.

As I look back over just the last year it’s exciting to see the evolution of PRST and my focus on helping more people find their authentic lives. Although they appear to be separate, PRST and my thoughts through the Daily Notes are very much connected–they are integral parts of my authentic life and ultimately get more people to connect their spirit, mind, body, and money in the Pursuit of their authentic life.

The two will only get closer together, along with RLS Wealth, as things continue to evolve—I can’t imagine what I’ll write in an updated version of this note next year.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
