Bring The Energy
Most of this weekend was spent in the gym helping coach Roman’s AAU team. Man, it was a tough weekend–we went 0-3 and lost a couple of the games by more than 20 points. If I’m being honest, our team was put together last minute and we lack the talent of most of the teams we play, which is ok for 12-year-olds…the important part of AAU at this age is more time on the court competing. But, not having the same level of talent is not an excuse for losing as badly as we did this weekend–we’ve played similar teams in the past and hung closer and even stole a couple of W’s.
I can tell how we are going to play by observing one thing…the energy of the team.
In nearly every huddle my brother-in-law (the head coach) reminded the team to focus on the things we could control, mainly their energy. It took a lot of restraint for me not to go off on a tirade about the Law of Attraction and how our lack of energy was directly related to the severity of the hole we found ourselves in, but I know at 12-year-olds don’t care about the Law of Attraction and I’d sound like a crazy person to them. Plus, the short timeouts were better spent drawing up a play.
On the other end of the energy spectrum from Roman’s AAU team is Ramon Ray, whom I had the pleasure to see on stage and spend a little time with at the end of the conference I spoke at last week. Ramon was the opening speaker and HE BROUGHT THE ENERGY.
And he didn’t just bring it on stage–he brought it for the entire conference, which is why he has seen the success he has as an entrepreneur (selling three of his five businesses), speaking on big stages with even bigger names (President Obama, Gary Vaynerchuck, Seth Godin, and more), and even got fired from the United Nations (the UN doesn’t strike me to be the most energetic group and they probably couldn’t match his 😀).
“Ramon inspires with high energy” is one of the first things you see on his website. Ramon Ray has unlocked a cheat code in life–understanding that our energy dictates so much in our experience and we have complete control over it.
You can’t control the actions of others.
You can’t control politics.
You can’t control the economy.
You can’t control the curveballs life throws at us.
You CAN control the energy you bring to any and everything life brings you…and that energy will determine how you progress in your Pursuit.
So, what type of energy do you bring each day?
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
