Gracefully Letting Go

“In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.”

- Buddha

I’ve had this quote written in my journal for a few weeks and this morning I reflected on the final thing Buddha said matters in life–gracefully letting go of things not meant for you.

In one of the very first Daily Notes I shared how “simplicity” was my word and focus for 2023 and although we’re only in April, I have simplified more in the first four months of the year in both my personal and professional lives than I have in years…in fact, in the years leading up, I was adding to my life not reducing. It has been a freeing process and created more space in my life for the things and people that matter the most.

When you read Buddha's quote, I am willing to bet you felt some type of emotion–there is something or someone in your life, interrupting your pursuit, and keeping you from moving closer to your authentic life. You know what or who it is and deep down you want to let them go as they are no longer meant for you.

But it’s hard.

Let today’s note be your friendly nudge to move closer towards gracefully letting go of what is no longer meant for you…and don’t forget to be graceful—that is an important and easily overlooked part of what Buddha said.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
