Rest Day
The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882 thanks to New York City’s Central Labor Union—it wasn’t the holiday it has become today, where many of us get the day off of work. Instead, it was an organized 1-day strike.
The purpose of Labor Day was to give workers who felt they were working too many hours and days a day off—the Labor Day holiday was not the only day organizers hoped to get for workers. While most people are not working the same hours and days that we saw back in the 1800s, you could argue we are busier than ever with a blurred line between work and home life, thanks to technology and work from home, combined with busy schedules for kids and their activities.
Take some time today, Labor Day, just to relax—remember why the day was organized and give your Self a break, even if it’s just a short one.
Take a nap.
Sit and read a book.
Lounge at the neighborhood pool.
Just sit and do nothing but observe the beauty and abundance around you.
Put the electronics on the table and do things you don’t normally do with your family.
Although “Pursuit” suggests you’re always moving towards something, it does not mean there is not time for rest and relaxation. Sometimes, doing nothing is what is necessary to keep the momentum of your Pursuit moving forward.
I plan on getting in my morning yoga and then spending the day outside with the boys doing yet-to-be-determined activities—I might even find time for a quick nap in the shade.
I hope you find some time to rest today and enjoy your Labor Day!
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
JC
