Worry
“Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”
-Leo Buscaglia
A few weeks back I was listening to a podcast with Eckhart Tolle and he explained to the audience how we have everything we need for the present moment—all of the stress, unhappiness, and frustration in our life is related to the past or the future.
It may not seem like that statement is true when you first hear it, but if you can sit and think about it and find your Self in the present moment, you will realize that everything you need for that exact moment is with you.
Now, I have to be honest—I have not figured out how to be present in each moment, realizing I have everything I need for that moment, and making progress toward my long-term goals. The conclusion I have arrived at is when stress arises thinking about future goals, let’s take a financial goal for example, you can use the fact that while you may not have the money saved for your future goal yet, you have the money you need for the present moment.
The present moment becomes an anchor to alleviate the stress, allows you to regain control of your mind, and find happiness in that you have what you need at that exact moment—which Tolle explains is the only moment that actually exists. And to add to the power of the present moment, the event you are worried about either already happened (and may not be as you remembered) or has not happened yet— and it may never happen.
While Eckhart Tolle does a masterful job of explaining the present moment, the quote that kicks today’s note off captures it just as well—“worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”
Give it a quick try…
Drop into the present moment.
Clear your mind of whatever you were thinking about it–it was most likely the past or the future taking your attention.
See and feel the present moment and realize there is nothing you need RIGHT now that you don’t have.
Allow the feeling of wholeness to overcome the stress from earlier.
Smile.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
