Finding Creativity

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”

- Henry David Thoreau

It’s been a minute since I’ve reminded you about the importance of expressing your Self through creative outlets. We all have an Inner Creator that wants to share its unique ideas, colorful visions, and imagination but many of us struggle to connect with our creative Self.

Creativity is contagious—meaning once you begin to express it, it becomes easier to bring your creativity to everything you do.

And don’t be mistaken, your creativity is not limited to creating art, music, photography, fashion, or any of the other stereotypes we associate with creativity. Your creativity can manifest its Self in the form of approaching a problem at work differently than your peers. Your creativity can manifest its Self in the form of how you storytell to parent your children. Your creativity can manifest its Self in the form of how you keep the fire burning in your marriage.

Creativity can show up in any and everything you do.

But you have to tap into it first.

If you’re struggling to find your Inner Creator and tap into your creativity you first need to see your Self as creative. Start with your thoughts and words and tell your Self you know there is a Creator inside you and that you are going to begin to let her out.

As you continue to work on seeing your Self as creative don’t put pressure on your Self to create from scratch—it you don’t consider your Self to be creative, it’s hard to create from a void. Take Thoreau’s advice and use the work of others as inspiration for your creativity.

Now, don’t rip off other Creators, but when you’re trying to tap into your Inner Creator there is nothing wrong with using the work of someone else to bring you inspiration for your own creation. Remember, the goal is to find the creativity that lies within and allow it to become contagious.

If you don’t see the creativity that lies within, you’ll never find it trying to start from scratch. Use what you see, the emotions that arise, and the ideas that evolve from the creative work of others to begin to connect to your Inner Creator and before long your creativity will be flowing.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
