Timing Matters

Early in my journey of launching PRST, discovering the concept of the authentic life, beginning my own connection of spirit, mind, and body, and heading towards where I find my Self today, a friend sent me a copy of The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.

For nearly two years the book has sat on my bookshelf patiently waiting for the timing to be right for me to pick it up.

This morning was that day.

Instead of starting my day by launching the Open App and doing a meditation I picked up The Four Agreements, grabbed my coffee, and made my way to the patio to do a little reading before writing today’s note.

Within the first few pages of the first chapter, I knew why the book sat for two years on my bookshelf…I wasn’t ready to read it. I had to progress further on my Pursuit for the book’s message to resonate with me—my friend knew I needed to read this book but was just a little early.

This is not the first time I’ve experienced this.

My experience with Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist was very similar—I originally ordered the book after hearing Kobe Bryant mention it was his favorite book in an interview with Jay Shetty. If it was good enough for Kobe, it was certainly good enough for me.

The Alchemist arrived.
The Alchemist sat.

The book sat on my bookshelf for a couple of years—I actually couldn’t find my copy when I rediscovered thanks to the same interview I watched because I was learning more about Jay Shetty (the first time I watched the interview was to hear Kobe, the second time was to hear Jay…same interview but different reasons to watch separated by a couple of years) it so I had to order a new copy. Naturally, I found my original copy of The Alchemist still marked at page 6 a couple days after the new copy arrived.

I wasn’t ready to receive Paulo’s message when I originally ordered The Alchemist. But the second time I ordered it, I was ready. I read it in a little over a day and attribute it to being one of the most important books I’ve read. I think The Four Agreements will be the same.

On your Pursuit, timing matters.

My experiences with The Four Agreements and The Alchemist are just a couple of examples of how they reintroduced themselves when the timing was right. I’m sure I would have enjoyed the books when I originally bought and received them but I know they would not have had as large of an impact as they have/will have when I finally read them.

The timing had to be right.

You may have a timeline in mind on when and how you want things to unfold on your Pursuit, but The Universe may have a different timeline…this is true for more than just books. You’ve probably experienced this in your life but may not have realized it. Take some time to reflect on when someone or something came into your life at just the right time—but it wasn’t the first time you’d encountered them.

And how’d you know the timing was right?

You just knew.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
