What’s Their Motivation

Information is abundant.

You have more information at the tips of your fingers which allows us to find solutions, learn something new, and stay up to date with world events faster than ever…the blessing.

You also have more misinformation, lies, propaganda, and agenda-driven stories at the tips of your fingers…the curse.

It’s becoming more difficult to determine the real news and stories from the manufactured and what is nearly impossible to decipher is the motivation behind the news and stories we consume each day.

The news and stories, which include the opinions of newly minted experts on the latest hot topic in social media feeds, begin to shape your perspective and eventually your reality. If you are not careful, you are at risk of allowing the unknown motivations of great storytellers and influential sources to take control of your experience–directing how you view the world, guiding your decisions to benefit their agenda, and bringing their reality to you.

And this is contagious.

Your influenced reality gets shared with family, friends, and your own social networks and the message spreads…and spreads…and spreads.

This spreading influence is not exclusive to negative motivation. There are optimistic, loving, and positively motivated news and stories being spread but our brains and emotions are drawn to fear and tribalism, which is why we see more negative news and stories dominating headlines and social media feeds.

You cannot escape the opinions and motivations of others from finding their way to you and it is ok to allow them to help you become more informed and educated, but before you accept opinions or stories to be fact, take a moment and ask, “what’s their motivation?”

Don’t unknowingly allow the hidden motivations of others to shape your perspective and become your reality.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
