A Time For Reflection

This time of the year, it’s normal to begin to reflect on the previous twelve months.

When you think about your last year, where does your mind instinctively go? Do you think about all of the positive, exciting, and high-energy moments throughout the year, or do you think about the negative, unhappy, and low-energy moments?

We all have moments that fall under both categories, but what you think about first in your reflections says a lot about the mindset you are currently operating from. I’m willing to bet that if your instinct is to reflect on all of the “good” from the last year, you naturally operate with a positive energy and optimistic mindset—the opposite being true if your instinct is to go to the “bad.”

There is value in reflecting on both the “good” and the “bad” because there are lessons to be learned in both, so this is not a note encouraging you to ignore the lower-energy events of the year. Instead, I hope it encourages you to examine your natural disposition. If it is tilting toward low energy, reflect on how you can flip that to high energy for the next year (and actually start today–don’t wait for the calendar to reset).

As you reflect on the past year, keep this quote in the back of your mind,

“Memory is a hodgepodge of fact, fiction, and fantasy.”

- Dr. Julia Shaw, The Memory Illusion

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
