Sometimes Just Hitting Publish Is Enough (1.20.23)

I didn’t know what to write today.

Last evening before bed I wrote down an idea and some notes for what was supposed to become today’s Daily Note. After my morning routine of breath work, meditation, and some movement I sat down to write. I opened my notebook, read my notes, and didn’t feel inspired to write on the subject I had last night.

No problem—I have other Daily Note ideas in my notebook for moments just like this. A tip for the Creators—get a notebook where you can write down any and all ideas you have so you don’t forget them and you can come back to them later to expand upon. But, as I scrolled through the pages I didn’t find any ideas that moved me.

I stared at the blank screen on my MacBook Air and was concerned I wouldn’t have a Note for today.

And then it hit me…

Just write something.

Start typing and get something down that allows me to hit publish. Whatever comes out and lands on the screen doesn’t have to be my best work ever and that’s ok. And, who am I to judge what my best work ever is? I might not think it’s great, but maybe today, as you read this, it speaks to you in a way that is extremely impactful—these were the words you needed to read today.

It is highly possible what I find to be “just ok” is game-changing for someone else.

But, if I don’t hit publish, it never has a chance.

You probably wake up some days struggling to find the words that inspire you to hit publish, or the whatever the equivalent is for you—maybe it’s hitting the gym.

That’s ok.

Not every day’s work has to be your best work ever—not every workout has to be a PR. Sometimes just putting enough down to hit publish or getting through your workout is good enough, and “good enough” is always better than nothing at all.

After all, tomorrow’s another day and today is full of opportunities to bring inspiration for the next Daily Note.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
