Worst Case Scenario Is Never As Bad As You Think

The fear of failure has kept many individuals from pursuing their passions, taking risks, changing their path, and ultimately living their authentic lives.

And that makes me sad.

The worst-case scenario we fear as a result of “failing,” which I do not believe failure is actually possible since we learn, grow, and improve when we do not fully attain our goals, is never as bad as we think it will be.

The root of the fear keeping you from fully committing to pursuing your authentic life is your ego. You might try to justify the fear through other things–family’s needs, finances, starting over, etc. but truthfully, those are excuses covering up that the ego doesn’t want others to look at you as a failure.

Your family’s needs, finances, starting over, and nearly every other excuse you can come up with can be discussed, planned for, and minimized as you design a plan for whatever you are pursuing.

Unless the passion you are pursuing is tightrope walking at great heights without any safety harnesses, the likelihood of not achieving your goal will likely not result in your demise. However, many act as if having a business that doesn’t work out, starting a new hobby, or ending unhealthy relationships is just as severe.

It’s normal to be uncomfortable with change, fear “failing”, and want to stay with the status quo because there are fewer unknowns, but your authentic life is found through embracing change, taking risks, and not staying stuck in the status quo.

Those emotions holding you back live in your mind, and as I’ll be talking about tonight in the Keep Pursuing Series, you have control over your mind and can change how you think about the worst-case scenario you fear.

You can remind your Self that you have planned for those risks.
You can remind your Self that the worst-case scenario is something you can recover from if you should experience it.
You can remind your Self that your ego is putting fear in your mind and that voice is not you.
You can remind your Self that on the other side of whatever it is you are pursuing is your authentic life.

And finally, you can remind your Self that your chances of achieving your goal greatly increase when you believe that you will be successful—hope is great, but belief is a cheat code.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
