Don’t Wait Until The New Year
With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just a few weeks away, it’s becoming that time of the year when we begin thinking about our New Year’s Resolutions, what we didn’t accomplish this year that we’ll try next, and how we can become a better version of our Self.
This act of reflection, refocus, and reinvigoration is excellent to do–don’t forget to identify what you accomplished and achieved and the rest of the “good” that happened to and for you in the last year.
But why wait until January to make any changes?
Yes, it’s easy to use holiday parties, busy schedules, and end-of-the-year deadlines to create excuses for waiting until January to work on becoming the next version of your Self, but that’s minimizing the importance of whatever you want to do. If eating better, working out more, reading more, prioritizing your Self, or whatever you say you want to do is important, then start today.
Note: I write that for my Self just as much, if not more, than I am for anyone reading today’s note. A text group I’m in with two of my closest friends throughout the question of what goals we want to establish for our personal, professional, and professional development lives next year. I haven’t shared my answer yet. I want to be intentional and specific about these goals because I know I will achieve them, but I did tell myself whatever they are, I will start acting on them the day I share them with the group–the holiday season and the end-of-the-year hustle and bustle will not be an excuse for me this year.
Don’t fall into the “starting next year” trap.
Start today—or, squeeze in one last crappy meal, unnecessary purchase, etc. today and start tomorrow.
When January arrives, and everyone else is just getting started on their new Self, you will already have momentum and will be less likely to fall off the wagon with everyone else a couple of weeks into the New Year.
Don’t wait. Be strong. You’ve got this.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
