authentically creative
“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.”
-Mary Lou Cook
We all have creativity in us–that’s right, you have creativity inside of YOU. Being creative doesn’t have to mean you express it through the creative arts we usually think of: art, music, photography, dance, etc. There are other ways to express your creativity.
Albert Einstein said,
“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.”
If you approach creativity through Einstein’s lens, then creativity can be expressed everywhere. Your ability to see what everyone else sees and think of something new is what differentiates you from others, and we all have the ability to bring new ideas to the table–they may not always be “good” ideas or be the ones that get selected, but your creativity is a valuable gift to the world because your idea may spark the next person’s idea that ends up solving the problem.
Don’t silence your creativity because you don’t view your Self as creative, and don’t keep your creative ideas to your Self because you’re afraid of how others will react. Sharing your creativity is a freeing act, and it spurs more creativity, which allows you to become more and more creative.
I know this to be true from personal experience.
I also know this because I am fortunate to know a lot of great Creators–my friend Matt Zeigler being one of those Creators. On top of being creative, Matt is also a student of creativity, which is why I asked him to be on the LifeDesign+ podcast with me,
To complement today’s note, I wanted to share the episode that dropped this morning with Matt, called “Authentically Creative”, which is a term he coined the morning of our recording. This was a fun conversation to record, and it is filled with substance–it’s not just the two of us shooting the breeze. You will certainly leave the episode with a broader and more exciting view of your inner creativity.
I hope you enjoy the episode, and more importantly, I hope you embrace the inner Creator inside of you.
