more love

According to Dr. David Hawkins, Love is one of the highest levels of Consciousness that we should strive to live in. Few people ever fully live at this level, but we are all capable of experiencing it and consciously trying to stay there. In his Map of Consciousness, Hawkins describes Love as a state characterized by the experience of love towards Self and others. It is a state of emotional well-being in which we are guided by love, kindness, and compassion in our interactions with the world.

He also states that in Love, we let go of resentment, blame, and judgment and instead focus on forgiveness and acceptance, seek harmony and unity, and recognize the interconnectedness of all beings. Love is understanding, empathy, and goodwill; it fosters healthier relationships, increased self-acceptance, and a genuine concern for others.

I don’t know about you, but love sounds like an amazing state of consciousness to be in.

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading Richard Rohr’s The Universal Christ, and an underlying theme throughout the book is Love. Rohr writes,

“Love, which might be called the attraction of all things toward all things, is a universal language and underlying energy that keeps showing itself despite our best efforts to resist it.”

He continues by reminding us that,

“After all, there is not a Native, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Islamic, or Christian way of loving.”

Love is love.

While it may not seem like it when you look at what is going on in the world at times, Love truly is the only Universal language. It’s only when we, individuals and our egos, get in the way that Love stops being the language of communication.

I witnessed this first-hand this weekend.

Roman and I were in Grand Rapids for an AAU tournament. He loves checking out new cities, and between games, he asked if we could drive around Grand Rapids to check it out. As we made our way up and down the streets checking out downtown Grand Rapids, which is such a cool city, we drove right into a protest against the current administration's actions. I had no idea it was going on, but thousands of people lined up along the streets and crossed the street, slowing down and blocking traffic.

As we were stuck in traffic, I looked out the passenger window, made eye contact with a few protesters, and immediately felt the opposite of Love directed back at me. Hateful words and gestures followed that energy, all because of the car I drive—a Tesla. The protestors, operating in a state of Consciousness far from Love, assumed that because of the car I drive, I must have a particular belief system. They didn’t know I bought my car years before Elon Musk got involved at the White House. They didn’t know that I’m not particularly fond of the choices being made by the current administration. They didn’t know I didn’t have any negative feelings towards them.

That particular exchange wasn’t the only one we experienced on our drive back to the hotel, and I couldn’t help but think about Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness. I understood the frustration felt by the protestors and why so many people are angry right now, but I’ve never seen any meaningful resolution achieved on the lower levels of the Map of Consciousness.

I wonder what could be achieved if protests were held from a state of Love.

I know that’s unrealistic because organized demonstrations are usually arranged when people are angry, frustrated, and fed-up and have moved on from operating in a state of Love. However, as a thought exercise, what could come from organizing in a higher state of consciousness?

The Universal language of love is not a secret—it’s in front of us all of the time. And sometimes, it shows up in places we would expect to see it.

Last night, before the NCAA Championship game, I was doing some work around the house, and I put on the Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder–I often put on movies that don’t require my full attention as background noise when doing tasks around the house.

At the end of the movie, Thor shares with not only Gorr (the villain) but also with the audience that Love is what everyone seeks. He ultimately chooses Love and does not continue the battle to defeat Gorr.

Even Thor knows that Love is the answer that ends all battles.

Love is always the answer.

As you know, these Daily Notes write themselves. Sometimes, I know why I’m writing them, and other times, I feel I’m just the vessel to deliver a message. Today’s Note is one where I feel I’m just a vessel to get more people thinking about Love.

It’s easy right now to fall down the Map of Consciousness. Still, I encourage you to actively choose Love, especially when you feel frustrated, anxious, or even scared–it certainly can’t make things worse. The upside of Love certainly outweighs the ease of staying in the lower levels of Consciousness.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
