surrender returns
I’ve written about surrendering multiple times throughout the last 777 Daily Notes, and for some reason, the theme has been popping up all over for me.
I randomly decided to pick up Dr. David Hawkins’s book Letting Go last evening, which is all about surrendering. I also listened to the latest Rich Roll podcast with Arthur Brooks and surrendering came up a couple of times during the conversation. This morning while making Silas an omelet for breakfast I decided to listen to a guided meditation on the Open app and the theme of the meditation was embracing growth; a significant part of it was focused on surrendering.
Universe, I hear you loud and clear.
Now, it’s time to figure out what I’m supposed to surrender–and maybe, there’s something you need to surrender as well.
I wanted to share a couple of short passages from Hawkins’s Letting Go in support of our collective surrendering:
“The greater our attachment to that which is outside of ourselves, the greater is our overall level of fear and vulnerability of loss.” (This one hits me the hardest.)
“The crucial point is: by changing ourselves, we change the world. As we become more loving on the inside, healing occurs on the outside. Much like the rising of the sea level lifts all ships, so the radiance of unconditional love within a human heart lifts all of life.” (Love shows up yet again, which I’ve written about lately. AND, a reference to a rising tide lifts all boats, which was the message of a Note last week—not a coincidence but confirmation in the form of a wink from the Universe.)
“Letting go involves being aware of a feeling, letting it come up, staying with it, and letting it run its course without wanting to make it different or do anything about it. It means simply to let the feeling be there and to focus on letting out the energy behind it. The first step is to allow yourself to have the feeling without resisting it, venting it, fearing it condemning it, or moralizing about it. It means to drop judgment and to see that it is just a feeling. The technique is to be with the feeling and surrender all efforts to modify it in any way. Let go of wanting to resist the feeling. It is resistance that keeps the feeling going. When you give up resisting or trying to modify the feeling,it will shift to the next feeling and be accompanied by a lighter sensation. A feeling that is not resisted will disappear as the energy behind it dissipates.”
