Life Outside The Lines by Bobby Hundreds
I started following Bobby Hundreds, one of the founders of the street brand The Hundreds, a few years ago when I first started thinking about having a lifestyle brand under the PRST brand. While I’ve settled on just doing periodic drops for PRST until there is time to seriously grow the brand, I still enjoy learning about brands that have stood the test of time like The Hundreds.
This past week it was announced that Bobby was taking a new position with Disney as their VP of Creative For Consumer Products; this role will put him in charge of clothing, toys, apps, books, games, and other merchandise. He has a unique background that is the epitome of authenticity and evolving with the interests and passions that called him—you’ll see what i mean when you read this short post.
As I read his latest post on his Substack, I knew I had my next Omen—here are a few important quotes (bold is my emphasis),
“I’ve fielded a spectrum of responses to the news that I’m now a Disney executive. The majority have been kind and supportive, but there have also been some surprising reactions and unwarranted feedback. At first, I was taken aback by a cynical opinion or a dash of skepticism. “Why would you leave success there to come here?” They couldn’t follow why I’d prioritize curiosity over prosperity. But then, I remembered that my moves have been making people uncomfortable for years.”
“But when you take a hard turn and off-road into the wilderness, you find surprise, growth, and adventure.”
“If I’d stayed in my lane as a clothing designer, I wouldn’t be able to fulfill this role. Like a video game where you pick up weapons and assets along the way, everything was preparation for now. Everything was a prologue for this next chapter. My career is a sentence that runs on, a paragraph that falls off the page, a story without a period. Life can’t be contained by a binding and a cover, as long as you keep writing from within. You will discover that the world has no edges, the universe just keeps going on and on forever.”
