Planting Seeds

A focus of mine is to help Roman, Leo, and Silas understand the importance of aligning their spirit, mind, and body before I understood it in my late 30s.

I don’t expect them to grasp what it can do for them at the age of 12, 10, and 5–but I want them to use the power of their mindset, how they talk to themselves, the importance of taking care of their bodies, understand their “thoughts are things”, and that they have control over what they will do in their lives–and that their mom and I will support them 100%.

I doubt I can get them to sit down and read The Power Of Now, Think And Grow Rich, or The Adventure of I–maybe the older two could read The Alchemist or The Four Agreements but even then I don’t think they are able to totally understand the message at their age.

So, I just plant seeds.

“You plant seeds every single day, in the world and in others, with every thought you think and word you speak and action you take. You have influence. You’re making a dent in the universe and you matter, in a very real way.”

-Jennifer Williamson

I try to lead by example through my words, actions, and trying to find opportunities to help them recognize these important lessons in their own lives–and making them listen to a few podcasts from time to time as well.

Right now, the best I can do is try to plant seeds that will hopefully grow into massive redwoods they cannot miss when the time comes. For example. “can’t” is a word I have tried to eliminate from their vocabularies–I want them to understand if they say they can’t do something, then they never will. I want them to choose their words carefully and with intent because what they tell themselves will become true.

I’m also becoming more aware of the words I used with them–especially when it comes to discipline. I’m trying to move away from telling them they are being lazy or selfish–even if they are, I don’t want to influence their thoughts and unintentionally lead them to believe they are just that and ultimately become it.

Not only do their words matter but so do mine.

I hope to instill many qualities in the boys–hard work, honesty, love, respect, and integrity, just to name a few. And it’s just important to me that I help them live their authentic lives and being their Pursuits earlier in their lives.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
