circumstances reveal your Self

“Circumstances don't make the man, they only reveal him to himself.”

-Epictetus

Not only do the circumstances we experience reveal who we are, but they also can determine what might happen next. You choose how you react to the circumstances, which is the revealing of you to your Self, and those reactions and the energy associated with them will attract future circumstances.

Over the last week, I’ve experienced the “bad things happen in threes”--thankfully, they were not really “bad” in the sense of being life-threatening, health-related, or anything serious. They happened to all be business-related and were a couple of relationships that had run their course and an opportunity that didn’t work out exactly as I hoped; two of the three occurred yesterday within thirty minutes of each other.

As things unfolded yesterday, I looked at the bigger picture, found the silver linings, maintained a high level of energy, and after a quick venting of frustration to a couple of friends, I quickly moved on to the present moment and moving forward.

It would have been easy and probably acceptable in the eyes of some to get down, complain about what happened, and think about what was lost, which would have only invited more challenges to me. The law of attraction is very real, and my day would not have ended the way it did had I allowed myself to sulk.

By the end of the day, things were already back on the upswing.

I had an energizing conversation with a member of The AGC™, found out a second financial advisor, who is a perfect fit, is going to begin working with me in the LifeDesign+ relationship this June, and right as I was going to pay my annual car insurance renewal, I got an email from my agent saying they had saved me HALF of my annual premium by switching to another company.

As I came across Epictetus’s quote this morning, I couldn’t help but smile and reflect on what the circumstances revealed to me and how quickly things turned around.

When life gets challenging, even if it’s not life-altering challenges, you will get an opportunity to see who you really are by how you handle the circumstances; if you don’t like what you see, you now have insight into some areas you can work on to improve your Self.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
