who will you be in five years?
Yesterday, I had breakfast with a few of the most intelligent people I know, who also are in finance and live near me. I’m fortunate to be able to surround my Self with individuals like this group because, first, they a great men, and secondly, I learn so much from them when we get together. I remember someone once telling me never to be the smartest person in the room, or in this case, at the table, which definitely was the case yesterday.
Sidenote: Saying I’m not the smartest one at the table is not negative self-talk; I know I bring my unique value to the group–otherwise, I wouldn’t be invited or friends with them. The exchange of value is balanced with this group as we all help each other see things in different ways and just enjoy each other’s company.
One of my friends asked a question I’d read before, but it stayed with me and resurfaced this morning.
If you look back at who you were five years ago, can you believe how much you have changed?
Now, think about your Self five years from now. Do you see a version of your Self similar to who you are today, or is it someone you almost don’t recognize because of the growth you will experience in that time?
We all agreed we saw a version that resembled today’s version of our Self.
We then also agreed that in five years, we’ll actually be looking back in disbelief at how much we’ve changed.
I don’t know about you, but that excites me. If I’ve changed evolved as much as I have in the last five years, I can only imagine what the next five years of evolution will bring for me.
As I think about my evolution over the next five years (and beyond), I realize it is important not to stay too attached to the version of my Self I am today. I’ve also realized for me to experience the growth I’m supposed to in the future, I cannot be married to this current version of my Self. If I try to hold on to him too tightly, the best version of me five years ago will not have a chance of becoming.
Surrender is a word that keeps coming up in my life, and it is the perfect guide for allowing your Self to evolve into the best version of you in five years.
Enjoy and love the current version of your Self.
Continue to work to align your spirit, mind, and body.
Follow your passions, heart, and intuition.
And do not hold on too tight to who you are today, and allow your Self to evolve into a version of your Self you cannot imagine today.
When you fight against the flow of life, especially when operating in alignment of spirit, mind, and body, you risk not allowing your Self to become the version of YOU you were created to be.
And we all miss out on experiencing the best version of you too.
