more positive or fewer negative Thoughts?

Lately, I’ve come across some greatly framed questions.

In a previous note, I shared one from Esther and Jerry Hicks’s Ask and It Is Given,

“If there is something that you desire that you currently do not have, you need only put your attention upon it, and, by the Law of Attraction, it will come to you, for as you think about this thing or experience that you desire, you offer a vibration, and then, bu Law that very thing or experience must come to you.

However, if there is something that you desire that you currently do not have, and you put your attention upon your current state of not having it, then the Law of Attraction will continue to match that not having it vibration, so you will continue to not have that which you desire. It is Law.”

In both of these scenarios you are focusing on something that you want: one from a perspective of want and desire and the other from a perspective of lack and not having–abundance vs. scarcity. How you view the same desired outcome impacts what comes to you, according to the Law of Attraction.

Yesterday, I was watching a podcast, which will be shared in this week’s Weekly Note, and the guest on the show posed a question to the host. He asked, if someone is struggling with controlling their thoughts, should they focus on having more positive thoughts or fewer negative thoughts?

Should we focus on more positive thoughts or fewer negative thoughts?!?

I loved this framing.

My initial thought to the question went straight to more positive–smother out the negative thoughts.

The guest shared that in studies it has been found more effective to focus on having fewer negative thoughts than having more positive ones. As I sat with that information, it made sense, especially when thinking about The Law of Attraction and what I have been reading in Ask and It Is Given…those negative thoughts, even if they are outnumbered by the positive ones can wreak havoc on our progress because of not only their energetic frequency, but because we typically don’t hold onto “little” negative thoughts.

The negative thoughts we hold onto usually are tied to trauma, have been with us for a long time, and are extremely emotional and self-limiting. To match that energy with a positive thought to try and cancel it out would require a positive thought that we are highly attached to emotionally.

Even if you are able to find that positive thought that can match the energy of the negative one, it most likely won’t be lasting and eventually the negative thought will regain it’s strength and debilitating impact on your mind.

Like the quote from Ask and It is Given, the decision to focus on more positive thoughts or fewer negative thoughts is attacking the same goal from two different perspectives, with one having a greater and longer lasting impact to your benefit.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
