who are you following?

“Who are you following?

Everybody is following somebody–or at least something.

Put another way, we’re all disciples.

The question isn’t, Am I a disciple?

It’s, Who or what am I a disciple of?

I know, I know; what I said is akin to heresy in the modern world. We want so badly to believe that we—and we alone–plot our course, captain our ship, control our destiny. We aspire to lead, not follow.

But, question: How is that working out for you?

Do you ever feel that nagging “thought” tug at the back of your mind: Is the life I’m living the life I most deeply desire? Is this it?

- John Mark Comer, Practicing The Way

I just started a new book, Practicing The Way: Be with Jesus, Become like him, Do as he did. I’m looking forward to reading it as I continue to explore “the authentic life” and “the alignment of spirit, mind, body, and money” because after a few pages, it would appear as if Comer would take issue with some of my beliefs, but as I read more I think that we are closer than it would appear at first glance.

It’s easy to read books that always align with my message, but to read (or listen to) content that challenges aspects of it will only help me further develop my understanding of the authentic life and how to help more people align their spirit, mind, and body to live that authentic life. I may believe in the power of living your authentic life, but I will always be a student of life and how the alignment of spirit, mind, and body may look different for everyone.

I’m sure there will be future notes that are inspired by this book, but for now, I want to direct you back up to the quote at the top of the page.

Especially the final line, “Do you ever feel that nagging “thought” tug at the back of your mind: Is the life I’m living the life I most deeply desire? Is this it?”

Depending on your answer, the beginning of the quote may help to give you some direction; reflect on your spiritual connection and who or what you are following. There is an answer that is right for YOU and aligns with your authentic life.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
