the little things
Every day, I make Silas’s lunch for school and always write a short note on a paper towel for his napkin.
He never mentions the little notes, but I imagined they put a small smile on his face as he reads the messages from his mom and dad each day.
One day, when I was cleaning out his lunch box, I checked the front zip pouch to ensure he hadn’t stashed any food that could end up rotting. Thankfully, I didn’t find any food. Instead of mushy strawberries, I found a bunch of the notes I had written him.
I had no idea he was saving the notes or that they meant enough for him to want to save.
What was meant to be a small gesture to hopefully put a smile on his face at lunchtime turned out to be even more meaningful than I could have imagined.
Don’t underestimate the value of the little things you do for others–this also goes for the things that might put a frown on someone’s face instead of a smile.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that carry the greatest weight.
See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,
