Greenlights
Yesterday, Roman and I made the journey to Omaha for the second weekend of his AAU season. For some reason, when we were buying snacks at the airport, I decided to buy Matthew McConaughey’s book Greenlights. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the book and have thought about buying it before, but I've never pulled the trigger.
But yesterday, when I picked it up and thumbed through it, I felt like I was supposed to buy it. I initially thought it might be to have as inspiration for a book I write in the future—the paperback version of the book is cool and has a very creative vibe.
The book ended up being more than just an inspiration for design; I ended up reading the entire book in one day.
I think for most readers it will be an entertaining story of McConaughey’s life—part of the reason I couldn’t put it down was because of his stories and the book's flow. But, for me, it was more than entertaining. It was inspiring. It was motivating. It was reaffirming. I also couldn’t help but see glimpses of the authentic life throughout it—shoot, “Greenlights” is another way to say “Omens.”
There are a lot of great quotes posted throughout the book, and I wanted to share this one with you to meditate on this weekend,
“Just because the seats are empty doesn’t mean they’re not taken.
