On our drive to the resort we were staying at in Jamaica, our driver shared how most Jamaicans view Bob Marley not as a national treasure or musician but as a prophet. He walked us through several of his songs, shared deeper meanings to the lyrics we all know, and connected songs to each other and events in Marley’s life.
Whether or not he was a prophet, there is no question that Marley’s lyrics have inspired, motivated, and brought happiness and love to many people.
I often found myself singing and humming these lyrics while walking to and from the pool, despite rarely hearing any Marley music at the resort.
Great lyrics to keep in your mind to recall whenever you are feeling a little stressed, or things aren’t going your way; you will immediately feel a little lighter after singing the chorus in your head.
Music is magic.
Note: You might have noticed that there was no Daily Note yesterday—a January 2nd travel day got me again, and I felt perfectly fine with not hitting publish tomorrow. I told Ang in the Orlando airport during our layover on the way home that I’m always going to skip January 2nd, even when we aren’t traveling, just as a nod to how two of the first three years of writing missed a January 2nd Note.
