are you creating the conditions you don’t want?

“How are we complicit in creating the conditions we say we don’t want?”

- Jerry Colonna via Tim Ferriss

I don’t listen to Tim Ferriss often, but I am a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Big Magic) and felt called to listen to their recent conversation. About 12 minutes into the conversation, Tim shared this question from executive coach Jerry Colonna.

It’s such a good question, and I immediately started thinking about my life.

Thankfully, I don’t have many conditions I’m subject to that I say I don’t want, but I did quickly identify a couple and, to no surprise, recognized that the only reason I am in these conditions, or more appropriately, not in the ones I desire, is because of ME.

I justify keeping my Self in these conditions because of other people’s feelings, circumstances that don’t really matter, and other excuses—but if I’m completely honest, those are just stories I tell my Self to avoid actually making the change.

I’m fortunate that the conditions I seek to leave aren’t that bad—otherwise, I think I would have made changes, but I am very complicit in creating and remaining in the conditions I say I don’t want.

How complicit are you?

Notice how that question makes you feel—I think that feeling means something.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
