I often discuss blogs, podcasts, videos, Flash Briefings, and newsletters as the best ways to communicate with clients, prospective clients, and to serve as the foundation of your content market strategy. I rarely mention writing a book--probably because I cannot personally speak to writing a book and it's a larger mountain to climb than the options listed above. But, writing a book can be tremendously rewarding from a client retention, marketing, brand building, and reputation standpoint. While I have yet to tackle writing a book, I'm lucky to be able to call on Ashby Daniels, CFP® to share his experience with us.
If you're new to the blog and this is your first time meeting Ashby, he is a financial advisor in Pittsburgh and writes the blog, Retirement Field Guide. He was also just included in Financial Advisors Magazine's Young Advisors To Watch. Be sure to give Ashby a follow and subscribe to his blog.
In this episode, Ashby shares his experience self-publishing his first book, Medicare Simplified. Before we get to a few highlights from the show, I want to direct you to Amazon so you can grab a copy for yourself--maybe buy a few additional copies to give to advisors or clients you care about. You can grab your copy by clicking here. Don't forget to leave a review for Ashby as well--I appreciate your help and I know he does as well.
If you've ever thought about writing a book then you will get tons of valuable information in the episode. Ashby walks through his process...write one chapter a week, the editing process...he had a hook-up, publishing...thanks Amazon, and other valuable advice...research first, then write.
After recording this, Ashby had me thinking about what book I might be able to write...🤔
